Kid’s Dog Show

Can your dog do awesome tricks that no other dog can? Is your dog so funny that people can’t stop laughing when it is around? Does your dog have the shortest or longest tail you’ve ever seen? If you answered yes to any of these, your dog belongs in the Town of Shelburne Parks and Recreation Annual Dog Show. The Dog Show is on Wednesday August 5th, at 6:30pm at the Atlantic House Park.

There will be many categories including: longest tail, shortest tail, longest tongue, best trick and many more. You may enter your dog in as many categories as you would like! Prizes will be awarded to both children and their dogs.

Soapbox Derby Results

On Saturday July 4th, the Town of Shelburne Parks and Recreation Department held its 10th Annual Soapbox Derby. Even with the weather being a little touch and go, people showed up to participate and cheer on the races.

Only 3 kids registered so we had a round robin, with the first place winner receiving a by into the finals. The other two races would face off to see how would race in the finals. Five trophies were given out in the junior division. Third place went to Spencer Enslow, 2nd place went to Michael Jacklyn, and first place, most innovative design and highest speed of 35km/hour was Jacob Spears.

After some persuasion from the crowd, three people decided to race in the finals. Jeremy Shand took on Lionel Enslow, with Jeremy being the winner. Jeremy faced off against Cindy Spears for the trophy. This race came down to the wire, with Cindy edging Jeremy out at the last minute. Cindy was given the first place trophy.

Thank you to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 63 for sponsoring the event, and to all that participated. For pictures from this year’s race, go to our Website at www.auracom.com/tnshelb in the scrapbook. It is never to early to start building your car for next year!!

Soapbox Derby - get building!

The Shelburne Parks and Recreation Department will be holding its 10th Annual Soapbox Derby Race on Saturday July 4th, at 10am on Bulkley Street. This would be a great time to start building your own car!
There will be both junior and senior divisions. In the junior division, ages 7-16, participants must wear a helmet, they must help to build their own car with wheels no bigger than 20 cm in diameter, no ball bearings allowed and there should be some form of brakes. The senior division is unlimited, however it is still required that the participants wear their helmets and have some form of brakes.
There is no entry fee and trophies will be awarded to the winners of the races, as well as the winners of the "most innovative design" and "highest speed" categories in each division. Participants much be registered by Friday July 3rd.
This is also a great chance for a non-profit organization to have a BBQ! The event usually brings a fair amount of people, so this would be a great way to raise some money. For an non-profit groups interested, more information or to register, call Patricia at the Parks and Recreation Office at 875-3873.
