Introduction
These pages have been developed to provide information on resources that
are available
on-line that may be of interest or benefit to Community Groups and Volunteers.
Each link posted below includes a brief description to provide some basic
information
on its content. Additional links will be posted as we find out about them.

The Parks and Recreation Department has started an email
contact list for local community groups and volunteers.
When we receive information that may be of value to the
community, we want to be able to make sure it gets to the people
who can benefit from it.

Just provide us with an email address for a contact person
in your group and we'll add them.
Most information is sent out to all on the list, but
some may go to those who have specific interests and/or needs
if we know about them.

The Nova Scotia Gaming Foundation (NSGF) is a not-for-profit, arms-length
government organization that plays a vital role in the independent response
to problem gambling in the province. The Foundation offers three funding
stream to help address problem gambling in Nova Scotian communities: two
levels
of project funding for community groups across Nova Scotia, grants
aimed specifically at Nova Scotia Community Health Boards,
and research funding to individuals sponsored by institutions in the
province.

The Pathwaysforpeople.ca web site provides recreation professionals, community planner, health promotion practitioners, Active Transportation champions, volunteers, elected officials, students, academics, school officials, and government representatives with a means to share knowledge and information on Active Transportation. Pathwaysforpeople.ca is designed to increase the awareness and understanding of Active Transportation in Nova Scotia and provide an accessible system for sharing best practices, research and policy information.Pathwaysforpeople.ca features information on Active Transportation, including links to AT strategies being developed by communities in Nova Scotia, a Safety Issues and Education section, links to resources, tools, research and publications, as well as a listing of news, events and a photo gallery.
Pathwaysforpeople.ca is an initiative of Recreation Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Department of Health Promotion and Protection. Adminstrative Partners include Ecology Action Centre and The Heart and Stroke Foundation.

HIGH FIVE® is Canada’s only comprehensive quality standard for children’s
sport and recreation programs and service delivery.
It represents a true commitment to children and is based on research involving
child development experts, recreation and sport professionals, families
and leaders.
Parks and Recreation Ontario founded HIGH FIVE® in 2001 after years
of research.
The standard is now being implemented across the country.
In 2007, agreements were signed by Authorized Providers in the following
seven provinces:
Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova
Scotia, Ontario, and Saskatchewan.

Nova Scotia Canada Volunteer Initiative (CVI) Network
The Nova Scotia CVI Network is open to any individual organization, company
or academic and government agency that support volunteerism.
They are a network of over 300 members representing large and small groups
from all areas of t he province.
Members bring their ideas, interests and perspectives to discussions and
initiatives.
It is a planning mechansism intended to play a role in identifying local needs and advising the national centre on program design and delivery.
South West Shore Development Authority - Resource and Organization Directories
The Resource and Organization Directory has been developed by the South
West shore Development Authority in response to
requests from many volunteers and agencies for information on community
groups and agencies in Shelburne and Yarmouth Counties.
The database will be kept current by the RDA.
The Ontario Provincial Consortium on Youth in Recreation (PCYR) has created
a list serve for those interested in working with youth
- predominantly within the sports and recreation sectors - to have a vehicle
to exchange questions, share resources and get information
on youth issues and trends. If you wish to become a part of the email

Department of Health Promotion and Protection - Physical Activity Sport and Recreation Province of Nova Scotia
The
mandate of the Office of Health Promotion - Sport and Recreation, is to
provide policies, programs and services that maintain,
enhance and create quality sport, recreation and fitness opportunities
which improve health and contribute to the social and economic
well-being of all Nova Scotians.
Recreation Nova Scotia is a not for profit organization established in
1998 to promote the values and benefits of recreation and leisure.
Recreation Nova Scotia advocates on behalf of all Nova Scotians for high

Canadian Parks and Recreation Association
The Canadian Parks and Recreation Association (CPRA) is the national voice for the parks and recreation field.
Sport Nova Scotia is a non-profit association incorportated in 1971. It
is a federation of provincial sport governing bodies.
Its non-voting members also includes individuals and organizations that
share a mutual intetest. Sport Nova Scotia's purpose is
to promote, encourage and stimulate interest in amateau sport in Nova Scotia.
Volunteer
Canada is the national voice for volunteerism in Canada. Since 1977, Volunteer
Canada has been committed to supporting
volunteerism and civic participation through ongoing programs ans special
events.
Powering knowledge exchange for practitioners and organizations in recreation
and sport since 1995, LIN is the home of Canada's
National Recreation Database.
If your organization is working to promote healthy active people and communities,
LIN is Canada's repository for the knowledge and
collective wisdom that will help you get the work done faster.
Provincial Consortium on Youth in Recreation
The Provincial Consortium on Youth in Recreation is a collaboration or
organizations and/or individuals whose purpose is to see youth
in quality recreation and physical activity programs in Ontario.
The Consortium has created a list of articles and resources relevant to
working with youth. While many of these relate directly to healthy,
active and positive youth development, some are more generic in nature
and speak to other aspects of working with youth such as youth
as volunteers and youth as decision makers.
All new articles and resource are distributed immediately to members of
an email list (see SPRYNT ABOVE) while this site will serve
as a portal to an archive of articles and resources.
Go For Green is a national non-profit charitable organization encouraging
Canadians to pursue healthy, outdoor pyhsical activities
