The Loyalist 5 Mile Road Race was held during Founder’s Days on Sunday, July 18th under beautiful skies and intense heat. The 2010 edition of the race was wildly successful with 67 participants! To put this in perspective the previous record for attendance was the 2009 5 mile Road Race having had 30 participants and in 2008 there were just 6 dedicated participants. Of the 67 Participants 37 were from Shelburne County.
In the Male Open category 1st place went to Colin Edwards with a time of 29:04.6. In the Female Open Category Emily Hamilton won with a time of 32:16.3. In the male Masters category Steve Murray won with a time of 31:50.4 and Brenda Goodick won the Female Masters with a time of 46:32. Male and Female Golden categories were taken by Harold Locke and Marion Oikle times of 44:12 and 51:00 respectively. Lastly the Alex MacLean took the Male Junior category with a time of 44:36 and Eleanor Melanson won the Female Junior Category with a time of 44:03.
Congratulations to all the trophy holders and many thanks to all the participants and volunteers who helped to make this the most successful Loyalist 5 Mile Race during its tenure. Special thanks goes out to the Shelburne Volunteer Fire Department for providing a safety vehicle, and the Shelburne RCMP for an Auxiliary member to head the race.
