Loyalist Five Mile Road Race Results
The Town of Shelburne Parks and Recreation Department held its 28th Annual Loyalist Five Mile Road Race on Sunday, July 27th as part of this year’s Founders’ Days celebration.
The race began at the corner of Ann and Water Street at 9:30am. The racers moved through town, around the Island’s Park loop, and finished on Dock Street across from the Fishermen’s Memorial.
Six people showed up and were ready to race! Paul Chetwynd from Shelburne won the 1st place trophies for Male Masters and Open Male with a time of 34 minutes and 48.4 seconds. The 2nd place trophies for Masters Male and Open Male went to Rod Mossman from Shelburne. Not far behind, Brian Chute from Kentville, took home the 3rd place trophies for both Male Masters and Open Male. In the Junior Male Category, Jackie Marciano of Shelburne took home the 1st place trophy with a time of 41 minutes and 21.7 seconds.
The 1st place Open Female trophy went to Dana Jacklyn of Stillwater Lake with a time of 37 minutes and 14.9 seconds.
Congratulations to all the winners! A special thanks to all the runners for coming out, TLC Pharmacy for donating bottles of water for the runners, the Shelburne Volunteer Fire Department for providing a safety vehicle, and the Shelburne RCMP for an Auxiliary member to head the race.

Founder’s Days Events
The Town of Shelburne Parks and Recreation Department held their Annual Founders’ Days events over the weekend. Kid’s Whirligig Workshop, Canoe Jousting, Greased Pole and Canoe Races were all held. We had a large amount of participants as well as many who came out to watch.
The Kid’s Whirligig workshop was a huge success with 35 kids.
Six teams competed in the Canoe Jousting. Andrew Spencer and Mervin Nickerson managed to beat out all of the teams knocking them into the water.
We had 17 participants sign up for the Greased Pole event. We had five prizes of $20 for the participants to grab.
There were 8 teams signed up for Canoe Races with two heats of 4 teams. In the first heat, Mervin Nickerson and Anthony Rossetti finished first. Finishing second was Jim Fyfe and his partner Mark Carlson. Both teams went on to the finals.
In the second heat James Fillmore and Connor Murry placed first and Kayden Reynolds and his partner Colin Bradley placed second. They also advanced to the finals.
In the finals, the first place winners were Mervin Nickerson and Anthony Rossetti.
Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to those who participated. Thanks to the Shelburne Volunteer Fire Department for providing their Zodiac for safety.
