Tennis Tournament Results

            The Town of Shelburne Parks and Recreation Department held its first tennis tournament of the summer on June 7th during the 22nd Annual Shelburne County Lobster Festival. The weather turned out great and seven players showed up eager to play.
            The Championship Men’s singles match was between Jody Nickerson of Halifax and Trevor Spencer of Stoney Island. It was a very competitive match with a close score. In the end, Spencer placed first in men’s singles while Nickerson came in second.
            The Championship of Men’s Doubles came down to Trevor Spencer and Andrew Blades against Jody Nickerson and Sheldon Brannen. After another competitive match, Spencer and Blades ended in first place and Nickerson and Brannen were in second. Great game!
            There will be a second Tennis Tournament August 9th at 9am at the Roger Grovestine Recreation Complex.

Horseshoe Tournament Results

            On Saturday June 7th, Shelburne Parks and Recreation Department held a Horseshoe tournament at the Recreation Complex. It turned out to be a great day and we had 12 people show up to take part in the round robin tournament.
            After playing three rounds Seldon Bruce and Ernest Thorbourn came out in first place. Not far behind, Paul Delaney and Eben Newell came in a close second. Congratulations to all the participants!
            There will be another Horseshoes tournament on August 9th at 10am at the Recreation Complex.

Soapbox derby - July 12 08

Soapbox Derby Results

             On Saturday July 12th the Town of Shelburne Parks and Recreation Department held its 9th Annual Soapbox Derby.  Many people came out to cheer on the racers.
            In total there were 8 kids registered to race for 5 trophies including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, Most Innovative Design, and Highest Speed. Riley Harlow took home 1st, in close 2nd came Matthew Jacklyn, and in 3rd Eden Maclean. Riley Harlow also took highest speed trophy with 33km/h and Michael Jacklyn took Most Innovative Design.
           In the Senior Division, there were 3 participants. Mark Henneberry took the 1st place trophy.
            Thank you to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 63 for sponsoring the event, and to all the participants. It’s never too early to start working on a Soapbox Cart for next year!
