Four teams competed in the Canoe Jousting competition, with Brandon Hemeon and Troy Dolliver taking the grand prize of 10 dollars each.

In Canoe Racing action we had 7 teams compete all together with two teams competing in the under 15 category and 5 teams competing in the 15+ category. Baby Boomers Physical Activity Survey
The Physical Activity Strategy - KEEP IT MOVING - was developed for
the Town and Municipality of Shelburne in 2006. The Strategy is a comprehensive
plan to get more people regularly physically active.
During the first two years efforts have been focused on increasing
the number of trained leaders and the number of opportunities available
to our residents.
In the next phase of the strategy, efforts will be focused on targeting
people aged 45-65, also known as Baby Boomers.
To make sure that a physical activity plan specifically suited for
Baby Boomers is developed input is being sought from the target group.
Focus groups will be held, but first some baseline information must be
obtained which will be accomplished with a short survey. Boomers that complete
the survey will have their names entered into a draw for a chance to win
$50.
There will be opportunities to fill out the survey throughout the summer
and fall at various events and activities. The survey is also available
online at www.municipalityofshelburne.ca and www.auracom.com/tnshelb. As
well, you can pick one up in person from both the Town and Municipal Recreation
Departments or from Adam Dedrick, Physical Activity & Community School
Coordinator, office located at the Shelburne Regional High School.

The Community Foundation of Nova Scotia is a public foundation established by and for the people of Nova Scotia.
The Community Foundation of Nova Scotia is an emerging community foundation. We are a member of Community Foundations of Canada, which represents a network of 160+ community foundations nationally, and who together hold close to $3 Billion in assets. In 2007, community foundations distributed over $175 Million to communities across Canada.
We engage in three core activities:
we establish and maintain endowment funds to support registered charities
and other eligible recipients;
we engage in strategic grant-making; and
we provide leadership with respect to a broad range of community issues,
connecting people who care with causes that matter.
As an independent charitable organization, we are limited only by the will and imagination of our donors. We believe in the power of individuals and organizations working together to effect positive change in our communities. We encourage projects which promote self-sufficiency and long term sustainability but we’re not afraid to experiment either. We recognize that innovation, creativity and entrepreneurialism are key contributors to success, especially in our Atlantic Canadian environment. We actively seek projects which have the potential for high impact, no matter how big or small they may be.

Consultation Session on Youth, Feb. 2
What would it take to make Shelburne County children and youth healthy, safe, nurtured, and responsible - and given the right opportunities to be the best they can be? On February 2, that is the question YOU can help answer.
The Tri-County Child and Youth Action Committee (CAYAC) is a group of local managers or designates from the Nova Scotia provincial government departments of Health, Justice, Health Promotion and Protection, Education and Community Services. It is also comprised of managers or designates of local school boards and service providers as well as community-based organizations and youth. It is one initiative resulting from a much larger, province-wide strategy for children and youth.
CAYAC's vision is that children and youth are healthy, safe, and nurtured, and responsible - and given the right opportunities to be the best they can be.
Over the next month, CAYAC – in partnership with the Acadia Centre for Social and Business Entrepreneurship – will be facilitating community consultations in Shelburne, Digby, and Yarmouth Counties. The purpose of these consultations will be to gather opinions about how we can take action to improve the lives of our children, families, and youth.
LOCATION: Sherose Island Recreation Centre, Barrington Passage February 2, 2-4pm (storm date is February 3)
RSVP: email Joel.Stoddart@acadiau.ca, phone toll free 1.866.654.4499, text your name and phone number to 902.698.1736.
