Have paints, will travel!
Gillian McCulloch is primarily a portrait painter who works in a variety of mediums.
She is drawn to painting portraits by her keen interest in people and the opportunity the genre offers to observe and to learn from each subject.
Her many subjects have included Dr. Helen Creighton, Mr. Justice Roland Ritchie, Father Donald Campbell, actress Mary Colin Chisholm and film maker Lulu Keating.
She was born in Halifax and studied fine arts at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and illustration at Sheridan College in Brampton, Ontario. She has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group shows since 1981 and her portrait commissions have taken her to British Columbia, England and across Nova Scotia.
She intends to continue working in larger formats and to experiment with backgrounds that are relevant to the spirit and personality of the individuals she paints.
