Le Transport de Clare was founded in 1996 and is governed by the Board of Directors of the Clare Organization Representing Persons With Disabilities (C.O.R.D.). Daily operation is managed by the Coordinator, Claredon Robicheau.
Le Transport’s wheelchair accessible vans log approximately 110,000 kms. annually with priority given to PWDs, seniors, and the disadvantaged. We service the Municipality of Clare and arrange transport to Yarmouth and Digby.
Le Transport de Clare is a public transportation service owned by the people of Clare and operated by C.O.R.D. (Clare Organization Representing Persons With Disabilities), dedicated to assisting all members of the community of Clare who experience challenges around transportation accessibility—for whatever reason.
Le Transport de Clare clients include seniors, persons with disabilities, economically disadvantaged and persons with limited use of or access to a motor vehicle.
Le Transport de Clare arranges the most effective means of assisting clients in reaching their destination. Every effort will be made to consider individual needs while maintaining efficiency of service.
Le Transport de Clare is mostly run by volunteers, and depends on donations and community support for its long-term sustainability. We believe that transportation accessibility impacts on the wellness of our community by enabling residents to enjoy the benefits of social, educational, employment, and recreational opportunities, as well as medical services. We gratefully acknowledge the work of the caring volunteers who keep Le Transport on the road and running smoothly.
Volunteers are the life force of Le Transport and make it possible to sustain this vital service by donating their time free of charge. We usually have nine volunteer Drivers and five volunteer Dispatchers, at any given time. The continued dedication of these community champions helped make it possible for Le Transport to become the proud owner-operator of a new nine-passenger accessible van in June 2003.
Le Transport de Clare is not a taxi or an ambulance service. It is a public alternative transportation system which has received several provincial and national Awards of Recognition. Le Transport was also the featured subject of a television documentary produced and aired in February 2003 on French CBC Radio Canada.
Le Transport de Clare wishes to thank the volunteers, the community of Clare and all our funders for the generosity that has made this acquisition and our continued service possible.
“Long may we run!”
